Hey Wilbur, welcome to the forum. BIAB brewing is an excellent and simpler method of AG brewing vs the more traditional multi-vessel method. I think you'll have fun and probably even learn a lot!

Re: My Current equipment and process. 1st BIAB outcome etc.

RE the "roiling boil" in the last picture. A couple of thoughts. It's hard to tell from the photo if the water is really boiling vigorously enough, I think this is something you'll have to experiment with to get adequate boil off. If I'm looking at the set up right it appears the liquid is only abou...

Hi Mitch from St. Louis - welcome to the forum! BIAB is indeed a good way to shift from extract, and with 8 years of brewing you've got some good processes in place. Read through Clear Brewing Terminology here http://biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=2685 as it really helps to get concise answers w...

Re: Belgian Pale Ale. What do experts think?

I've been lurking in the background because I couldn't figure out why your second hop addition had 0 as the amount of hops to add. It finally hit me that you've input the addition of these flavor hops at 60 minutes, same as your bittering hops. If you change the "Min" of your second hop addition (se...

Re: I think I am ready

Hey Fat I agree with Shorepoint's suggestion that you use a tried and true Biabacus recipe for your first BIAB brew. The one he suggests is the one I (and many others) started out with, with good reason: it's already filled out (modify for your kettle size and desired VIF) , there's a methodology to...

Re: Be careful what you wish for

Well, I did go for it and bottled a few weeks ago. I didn't rack into a secondary. I let the beer sit on all the trub for about 3 weeks while fermentation finished, then bottled. The beer conditioned in the bottle for 3 weeks and then I cracked a bottle. The result was a nicely bittered beer, with n...

Re: My First Post! - Post here to become Fully Registered

Possum55 - once I started using the Biabacus I realized how cumbersome the English measurement method is. Up until recently I was still measuring the total water needed in gallons, but I've started just measuring the head space in the kettle (in inches - I don't have a metric ruler). Anyway, give it...

Well that's an interesting bit of information. Your adjustment spreadsheet seems soundly based, but after testing your results didn't match your expectations - such is the experimental process. Thank you for running this experiment and posting your results! It seems there are a lot of variables - pe...

Welcome Dr_Hops! There's a whole lot of information on this site. Ask quetions and you'll always get some good responses back. There seem to be quite a few small batch brewers, which makes sense as BIAB is well suited for experimentation.

Re: Be careful what you wish for

Thanks for the reply SP. Regarding the boiloff, the BIABacus missed by a bit but that was probably due to a very vigorous boil. Of course there's always user error. The weather was in the mid 70s so that wasn't really a factor. I'm really not sure whether to rack to a secondary (and if so when?) or ...
