Nala, another question please: when you pump out of the bottom of the urn, do you not get the grain compacted at the bottom or by the outlet? also, i would think that rather than "raining" the wort back onto the top of the mash, it would be better to push it back into the middle of the mash where i...

Hi Nala,(or anyone who can answer this!) a few mroe questions: 1. does this system scorch the wort because the element is running during mashing? 2. do you continuously recirculate during mash? 3. Do you use the probe that ships with the STC1000? I've been looking at them on ebay and the probe look...

That looks excellent Nala, I've done 2 BIAB brews and I'd love to get something like this together. I'm just trying to get clear in my head what exactly is happening here. Forgive my stupidity but is this it?? The element is concealed so theres a false bottom of some sort seperating the element fro...

Really cool nala! Two questions: 1)Looks like you're disconnecting the hose from the pump to drain the urn into, looks like, your cube. Couldn't you use the spigot from the urn instead? I'm sure you have a good reason, just curious what it is. 2)In the last picture, is the hose going through the ba...

Excellent thread nala . I was a bit worried when I saw the second pic with the noose. I thought you might have been thinking of giving up on the project . You've done a great job, everything looks really well done and neat. Better still, it sounds as though it actually works well which...

You should try measuring its flowrate at the 50cm or whatever head you have going :) Yes I will measure it the next time I brew. Is there a recommended flowrate for what I am doing ? I have 33 litres of water/wort if the flowrate is 6 litres per minute the full volume of water will be recirculated ...

Great work nala, very simple and very elegant. :) I think your idea of a temp controller on the urn is a winner, I haven't seen that done before as most people use them to control a fridge. Your idea makes hitting temps with an urn, dead easy. I like the little pump as well, what is it rated at in ...

Worms-BIAB

I am posting pictures and dialogue of a simple system to enable step mashing and wort recirculating. I have titled it WORMS-BIAB (Wort Recirculating Mashing System). I have made the majority of components from materials that can be bought from Bunnings. The components that I already have are a STC10...

Calculations - What's the big deal ? First up, I should say that I am now an exclusive BIAB/Electric Urn brewer because the simplicity cannot be beaten. Have done about 20 brews using BIAB (50+ more brews before BIAB), and hit the same efficiency figures time and time again. The disclaimer should b...

Hi Whilst others have been putting forward their efforts I thought it was about time I presented mine. So please find attached copy of my BIAB Beer Designer spreadsheet, obviously still in the development stage and probably has a number of things that need correcting. Would appreciate thoughts and ...

Here is my contribution to this thread. I use hop Vodka to "Hop-up" my beers. the extraction method is the same except you don't need vodka just water. Take a look anyway. http://www.stempski.com/hop_vodka.php The aroma of my beers (even a already hoppie brew) is enhanced by this tick. You really k...

I really like the infra-red one.Does wort qualify as a reflective surface? If that thing is any for brewing I'm getting one.I heard actually that they are fairly good even for body temperature.I figure(after playing with my assortment)that if it can be within 3 C I would be happy. It has lot's of oth...

Good Day again, I would like to make clear of what I am doing. I have been needing 4 gal/15 liter and 5.1 pound/2.31kg grains to end with 2.65gal/10.1liter of wort with a gravity of 1.048. Now that I squeeze the bag,I am getting .4gal/1.02liter MORE wort. I do ferment, bottle, drink the extra 3 bootl...

I am new to brewing, I have brewed a few kits but am not realy satisfied with the results.
I have decided after reading about BIAB to pursue this line and see what happens.
I have limited equipment but I feel sure that what I have will start me off.
Look forward to being educated on BIAB. Nala
