Re: Low Oxygen Brewing

Visit a brewery with a tasting room where the beer on tap has traveled from one side of the building to the other. Then try the same beer after it has traveled many miles over time. If there is no difference between them, then the brewer has found a combination that travels well and hopefully taste...

Re: Low Oxygen Brewing

Glad you guys weighed in on this. To me making good beer is like being a good fisherman. You need to be confident. Confidence in the water you use - or the water that you fish in, confidence in your mash method - or your lure, confidence in your recipe - or your rod and reel. All are critical. I hav...

Hey Soccrfan - it's your Dad here :) Sounds like you did great with the Belle Saison. I have used it twice and really like it, but I might have kept it too cool (out of habit with other ales). I think it is at the higher temps that you get the saison characteristics of fruity and spicy. Let us know ...

Lots of things to be proud of I reckon and lots of things to be not so proud of (like most other countries). Well - be proud of that soccer team - no matter what happens from here! Many of the pundits are picking them to go all the way. Let's hope that's not bad luck :) When soccredad wrote above, ...

When I was Mister Impatient and struggling to get what I need at 60 I would do a mash out (which essentially meant the grains were wet for another 15 to 20 min :) But Saturday I was happy at 1056 after 90 (plus) and pulled the bag.

Good News - I figured out this 90 minute mash thing !

Like everyone else, when I first started brewing - and researching all grain brewing I had 60 minutes etched into my stone tablets, just like old Moses himself. 60 minute mash - 60 minute boil - with very few variations and those mostly on the boil side .. boil pilsner for 90, etc. So my research ge...

Happy Australia Day

I'm not exactly sure how to celebrate .. back in the day I would have "shot" an oil can of Fosters. Can't ride a dugong where I live - the rugby team here folded - no Bondi Beach. Maybe I will brew in a bag and no chill !! Oh yeah - and best wishes to the Aussie soccer team competing for the Asia Cu...

Hiebster - I hope this was one of those cheapo paint strainer type bags. I used those for 60+ batches and I guess I never worried about burning them (though I was careful) nor did I worry about snagging on the thermometer probe. Then I invested in a top quality voile bag - it would break my heart to...

Well - I feel stupid :-) I had no qualms breaking the ice and answering a few questions in the initial post, but how I ever missed an entire forum section on EBIAB is beyond me. In fairness, I was born half stupid, so when I work hard at it, it is pretty easy for me to get to full stupid :-) Anyway,...

It's definitely a hard concept for anyone to get their head around and understandably so. I don't know that I agree. I think we are often too harsh with those who are new to BIAB - or who come to BIAB after other methods that include an active sparge. People are mot stupid (well on voting day they ...

>answering just one question above well would be massively appreciated I'm glad that is the case. I am not experienced enough or knowledgeable enough to answer all 5. I think these 2 things fall under 3 and 4 above. First, what I find most at biabrewer is a pretty full set of agreed upon BEST PRACTI...

Hello all - another BIAB brewer here in Georgia in the southeastern US. My kids got me into home brewing with a Christmas gift of basic supplies at Christmas four years ago. We still do some extracts and partial mashes, but the 3 batches fermenting now are all AG BIAB. My son and I may bottle one of...
