Yeast Harvesting

I'll be using WLP 002 Yeast.
I have not brewed in a bag before. Do I need to use finings to clear the beer before I put it into corni kegs?

If yes will the finings prevent me from washing/harvesting the yeast?

I've now decided not to buy a Temperature controller. I'll try a few brews first and see what I think. I do have another question. If I do have to apply heat to the kettle element/s during mashing, I will make sure my bag is lifted off the bottom of the pot and element/s and I will agitate it. So do...

Thanx for the replies.

I've bought a good 2 double pulley system that will give me a 4:1 lifting ratio.

Because I will be no chill in the boiler over night I can't foresee any problems with weight.
I will certainly insulate the boiler.

Hello Joshua,
Do you use a Temperature controller for mashing/boiling?

If I do fit a temperature controller do I wire it in to just one element or wire it in to both elements. Which raises another question, Can I use one element at a time if I wire the controller into both of them?

Thanx for the reply Joshua,

Surely I do not need 4500watt element in a 50 Litre pot?
I was hoping that 2.4Kw would be enough!
Has anyone else only got a 2.4Kw in a 50 Litre pot?

When someone buys a 40 Litre Urn that's only got one element in it, which is why I thought one element is enough.

Hello Mally, The 2.4KW elements, did you buy them from Backer Electric? Do you think I would need the 2.5mm silicone washers fitted to the inside of a non insulated pot? I do not want to buy an insulated pot because I want to No Chill in the Stockpot/boiler over night. With the two 2.4KW do you get ...

Thanx for the replys Joshua and Shorepoints, I can't thank you enough for pointing out the implosion problem. I'd have never have thought of that. I'll certainly use a sanitised towel over the boiler to slow chill. I'll buy a pot WITHOUT a tap. I've thought of another question:- I intend to buy a 10...

Joshua, Thanx for the reply. On your answer to question 1) So Do I need a tap? I'm not worried about using a tap to get oxygen into the wort as I've always just used a paddle to airate oxygen into the wort. Your answer to question 3) I do not want to use a cube at all. I just want to leave the wort ...

I intend to chill in the boiler

I have never BIAB before. I intend to let the wort chill overnight in an electric stockpot/boiler. ____________________ I read this:- http://www.biabrewer.info/viewtopic.php?f=50&t=54 "Hey Dick, I allowed my first 1/2 dozen brews chill in the kettle o'night. Just draped a flannel cloth over the top....
